Purple Heart Day is observed on August 7 each year and is a time for Americans to pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who were either wounded on the battlefield or paid the ultimate sacrifice with their lives.
The Purple Heart, together with its forerunner, the Badge of Military Merit, is the oldest military award still given to U.S. military members. The National Purple Heart Hall of Honor, located in New Windsor, New York, is currently undergoing a major expansion of their facilities but is still managing their online Roll of Honor.
