Through changing times, New York Council has not wavered in our support of Fleet Week New York and our enthusiasm for welcoming Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen to our city.

Fleet Week New York 2022 was celebrated May 25–31

This year, our city welcomed nine ships: U.S. Navy ships USS Bataan and USS Milwaukee, U.S. Coast Guard cutters Dependable and Sycamore, four Naval Academy Yard Patrol Boats (YPs), and the Royal Navy's HMS Protector, all the way from the United Kingdom. From ringing the Nasdaq closing bell to mark the beginning of the week through our Farewell Cookout at USCG Station New York, New York Council members hosted and participated in nearly three dozen events to celebrate the Fleet. For more photos of all the festivities, visit our Facebook page.

For the second year, 2021’s Fleet Week New York was held in a virtual environment on social media due to ongoing concerns with COVID-19. The year’s events streamed May 26–31 on Fleet Week New York’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts, with others held via Zoom by the New York Council. The Council was proud to present a kick-off video, featuring our Members talking about their favorite parts of Fleet Weeks past and toasting to Fleet Week 2021. You can view the video above. THE HISTORY OF FLEET WEEK New York

Since 1988, Fleet Week New York has been an annual tradition in New York City. This celebration allows Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen the opportunity to experience the city while giving the citizens of New York and the surrounding areas the opportunity to witness firsthand the capabilities of today’s maritime services.

The history of Fleet Week New York dates back to when Richard W. Scheuing, former President of the New York Council, happened to visit San Francisco at a time when their own Fleet Week celebration was occurring. He was so moved by its impact that, when he returned to New York, he played an integral role in ensuring that this celebration be brought to the city.
