See below for a small taste of upcoming events and ongoing programs from a few of our favorites. The New York Military Affairs Symposium continues its Friday lecture series with online offerings. Click here for topics, times and Zoom links. Most lectures are Fridays at 7:00 P.M., but please check their listing to confirm the day and time of any lectures you plan to attend.

The New York Military Affairs Symposium also offers a full library of prerecorded talks online, including past Friday Evening Talks. Recordings of other free and public talks can be accessed here. The World War II Discussion Forum aims to give scholars from all over the chance to discuss their latest works. The full listing of lectures is available at https://www.wwiidf.org/events. You can register for email reminders from the Forum at the bottom of their homepage.

INSIDE THE EXHIBITS AT THE COAST GUARD MUSEUM

The New York Council Navy League is a great supporter of the U.S. Coast Guard, helping to ensure they continue to be the world’s best Coast Guard. In an effort to see the Coast Guard join the Navy, Marine Corps, Army and Air Force with a National Museum to call their own, we are proud to be part of the effort to build a National Coast Guard Museum in New London, CT. April celebrates the Month of the Military Child, with several events in the tri-state area (Please note some of these require base access):

  • April 25, time TBD: Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Month of the Military Child event at McGuire AFB’s Big Beige Hanger, Burlington County NJ

  • April 26, 5:00–6:30 P.M.: Month of the Military Child Beacon Homes Touch Truck, Groton CT

  • April 27, 9:00 A.M.–noon, Fort Hamilton Month of the Military Child Color Run at Taylor Field, Fort Hamilton, NY.

Kyiv Camerata, Ukraine’s leading chamber ensemble, is coming to Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall on April 28 at 5:00 P.M. in their first U.S. performance since 1998. The program features North American premieres of Ukranian works, conducted by Canadian-Ukranian Keri-Lynn Wilson and featuring acclaimed mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato. This performance is presented by USA for Ukraine, a nonprofit organization that supports humanitarian causes in Ukraine. Opera singer and New York Council Advisory Committee member Victoria Miningham is performing the lead soprano role and arranged a 10% discount for Navy League members who wish to enjoy this historic performance. NY Mets are once again hosting a Military Transition Summit at Citi Field, in partnership with NYC Department of Veterans Services. This year’s resource event will be on Saturday, May 4 from 10:00 A.M.–2:30 P.M. Free parking is available; lunch & refreshments will be provided, along with a tour of Citi field, giveaways and more. Topics will include:

  • Resources for Women Veterans

  • Health and Emotional Wellness

Our friends at American Legion Post 754 at the New York Athletic Club are raising funds to support their mission of mentoring transitioning veterans into meaningful careers. Join them on May 9 for their 11th Annual Casino Night.

Exit12 Dance Company is bringing together a group of Veterans, military-connected individuals and civilians for Stories of War, a series of movement workshops that will culminate with a performance on the evening of May 31 at the Intrepid Museum. Over six weeks, Exit12 will hold space for participants to share stories about their service. Participants will receive a stipend and travel reimbursement for the workshop series and performance. Have a passion for fly fishing or looking for a new, relaxing hobby with a dedicated community? Then Project Healing Waters is for you. From virtual fly-tying classes to in-person fly fishing outings, Project Healing Waters creates a community for Veterans with no barrier to entry —providing all materials (and transportation if needed) for new members. The National Lighthouse Museum is located on Staten Island, steps from the St. George Ferry Terminal and regularly hosts special exhibits and events highlighting not only lighthouses and lightkeepers, but broader maritime topics as well. Click here to explore their upcoming events.

NYC Department of Parks & Recreation has a full schedule of volunteer opportunities and other events, including “It’s My Park” beautification and clean-up projects throughout the city. Daughters of the Cincinnati offers four-year college scholarships available to daughters of career commissioned officers in all the United States armed services. Their scholars are selected on the basis of academic achievement and excellence in extracurricular activities.
