Navy Day/Teddy Roosevelt's Birthday

Navy Day was originally sponsored by the Navy League in 1922 to recognize our Navy when the Navy League New York Council proposed an official observance on October 27 in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt's birthday.

Although officially replaced by the broader Armed Forces Day in 1949 and the recognition of the Navy's Birthday as October 13 in 1972, our Navy Day tradition lives on as a day for the public to honor the Navy.
